From today’s Scripture: “When his brothers saw that their father loved [Joseph] best of all his sons, they hated him so much that they would not even greet him.”—Gen 37:4
Like many Old Testament stories, Joseph’s story has the makings of a great drama—the plotting, the twists and turns—and what a dramatic scene when he finally reveals his identity to his brothers who hadn’t recognized him.
Hate is a great evil that leads to more great evils—fill in the blank: war, racism, exploitation, genocide, etc. It’s a truism that hatred has two victims—the hater and the hated. No more hate! Because not all stories have as happy an ending as Joseph’s.
Let us pray: Lord, help me guard against envy and jealousy that can lead to even darker things.
