From today’s Scripture: “The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.”—Jn 1:29
Imagine you were among the crowds with John. As you were listening, you saw John look up. You follow his gaze and see a man walking toward John. As he walks, he turns toward you, and you find yourself gazing into his eyes. In his gaze is pure love and mercy. Then you hear John proclaim, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” You keep your gaze upon him as you fall to your knees. Your heart is overwhelmed with awe, joy, peace. You never want to separate from this moment. As the scene fades away, you find yourself standing with other parishioners in front of the altar. The priest raises the host saying, “Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.”
Jesus comes to us always hoping that we will see and go to him. Do we see him in others? Do we see him and desire to spend time with him in the Blessed Sacrament? Do we see him in the sacraments?
Let us pray: Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
