From today’s Scripture: “Jesus summoned the Twelve and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.” — Luke 9:1-2

The sheriff called C-Hope Ministries about a young man who got released from jail and needed shelter. The sheriff encouraged him to enter the program to make a change. As we talked to this young man in his 30s who had an addiction to meth that began at a very young age, he shared that he had been in and out of incarceration most of his juvenile and adult life. He was sick and tired of being sick and tired. We asked him what he wanted, and he responded that he wanted to be free from the chains of addiction and incarceration.

We felt summoned and sent to walk with him to share God’s love and mercy. The community of about twelve shared their struggles and joys during the daily devotionals and supported and cared for one another. He was becoming well and no longer controlled by his demons. He has not been back to jail and has overcome his addiction. He was baptized and is living out his vocation as a husband and father and started a business. As missionary disciples, we have the power together in community to proclaim the Kingdom of God. How are we, or can we be, part of a community of healing?

Let us pray: Lord, you have summoned and called us. Give us the courage to encounter and share your healing power.
