From today’s Scripture: “Do you realize what I have done for you? You call me ‘teacher’ and ‘master,’ and rightly so, for indeed I am. If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet. I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do.”—Jn 13:13-15
Jesus had just taken on the role of a servant by washing the feet of his disciples at the Last Supper. Then, he told them that they should do the same. This happened repeatedly, but priests and lay members seem reluctant to adopt this title of servant. Maybe we think this title takes away our dignity. But, it really gives us the freedom to express our dignity by imitating Jesus, the Son of God. Such a servant is a wonderful role for all of us.
Let us pray: Jesus, I thank you for letting me be a member of your family, with God as my Father. Let me live as a member of your family by loving and serving all of your brothers and sisters.
