From today’s Scripture: “After this, aware that everything was now finished, in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled, Jesus said, ‘I thirst.’ There was a vessel filled with common wine. So they put a sponge soaked in wine on a sprig of hyssop and put it up to his mouth. When Jesus had taken the wine, he said, ‘It is finished.’ And bowing his head, he handed over the spirit.”—Jn 19:28-29
Jesus freely gave his all for us. From the time he started his public ministry until the moment he died, Jesus lived for the people, teaching the people by everything he did and everything he said, right up to the final moment when he gave himself freely to the Father.
When the time came for him to die, he did so freely, without hesitation, for the redemption of all people and as an example for how we, too, can die freely.
Let us pray: Jesus, in your mercy, I ask you for the grace to die freely, as you did, giving myself wholly to you, trusting in you totally.
