Fourth Tuesday of Lent

From today’s Scripture: “Jesus said to him, ‘Rise, take up your mat, and walk.’”—Jn 5:8

Jesus heals again by putting the man in the pool. We celebrate his healing. Not everyone celebrates; certain Jews are quick to point out that this is the Sabbath. Joy has turned to confusion and doubt because of breaking the law.

As a child, no stores were open on Sundays. It was a day to spend time with families — a time to be renewed. Today, Sundays have become like any day of the week. A day to shop, clean the yard, etc. No rest, no time to renew life! We drag through life.

What can we do? Celebrate the Sabbath. Maybe Sunday is not our Sabbath because of work. Then what day is our Sabbath? We need the Sabbath. God created this special time.

Let us pray: Lord, give me the wisdom to know what is important in life and the strength to live it. St. Patrick, pray for us.
