From today’s Scripture: “Therefore we fear not, though the earth be shaken and mountains plunge into the depths of the sea.”—Ps 46:3
Fear is a real and very powerful emotion. Today’s readings are a powerful reminder: “Do not be afraid.” Like all emotions fear in itself is neither good nor bad, in fact fear can help us beware of danger. But if we are not careful, fear can make us hostile to people, even to life itself. If we allow it, fear can impair our ability to love and to be loved; it can stunt our capacity to be compassionate, kind, and generous. It makes us believe that we are the ones in control.
Today we are reminded that God is the creator of life and the source of everlasting love. Let us trust in God’s love so that we may be able to live life generously.
Let us pray: Lord of perfect love, help me to break free of my fears and my worries. Let me remain in your love so that I can flourish, and become fully human.
