From today’s Scripture: “The younger son collected all his belongings and set off to a distant country where he squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation.”—Lk 15:13
There is a Sioux Indian saying, “The longest journey you will make in your life is from your head to your heart.” In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us the story about a young man who, despite living a comfortable life, is totally lost and lacks insight about the real meaning of life. He thinks that the problem is around him. His current outer life is not bringing him enough satisfaction. He embarks on a journey which turns out to be a powerful experience. We could say that he has come full circle, but that’s not true, because he has gained insight and a new heart.
Let us pray: Dear God, my master teacher, please take me by the hand and guide me in my journey. Teach me how to be a good student and open my heart to new insights. Help me to leave my old ways so that you may transform me into a new creation.
