From today’s Scripture: “As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were fishermen.”—Mk 1:16
Simon and Andrew were fishermen. They weren’t the Harvard graduates or the celebrities of their time; they were ordinary people with normal jobs trying to provide for their families like you and me.
This calling of the disciples is also a great reminder that Jesus comes to meet us as we go about our daily lives, living in our vocations. When I was younger, it was easy to encounter Jesus while on a mission trip in Rome or on a silent retreat. Now with a young family, I have a harder time spotting Jesus with a loud child often climbing all over me. And yet, he is there, with me in all of it.
Let us pray: Jesus, you come to me right now, wherever I am, amidst all the noise. Help me to see you and to hear your call for me today.
