From today’s Scripture: “I will leave your son one tribe for the sake of my servant David and of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.”—1 Kgs 11:13
The Lord may give, and the Lord may take away, but he never abandons his people. Solomon learned this lesson the hard way when he chose to turn away from God. Yet in his mercy, God did not cut off Solomon’s (and thus David’s) full inheritance. God set aside one tribe that would eventually lead to the birth of Jesus. Even if we turn away from God, he is there waiting for our return, keeping for us grace and mercy.
Let us pray: In your mercy, oh Lord, you have always remained faithful to your people. Help me to remember my hope is in you.
