From today’s Scripture: “Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:6-7

Every time I read this passage, I think of a friend of mine who often responds to difficult words by saying, “That’s easy for you to say.”

Well, today, as we celebrate the Feast of St. Francis and the conclusion of the season of creation, it is easy to get discouraged over how we are not caring for creation. It’s even easier to tell people to have no anxiety, but wouldn’t it be better to encourage people to have more courage in their personal caring for creation?

Let us pray: As we celebrate St. Francis, send the Spirit of St. Francis to give us the courage to care for creation in our own place in our own way.
