From today’s Scripture: “He got into the boat with them and the wind died down.”—Mk 6:51
In a well-known passage from Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis likens personal prayer to “coming in out of the wind.” Sometimes “the wind” comes at us from unexpected and challenging circumstances beyond our control. And other times we create it: that worry we cling to, that resentment we keep feeding, that very human insistence that life go our way.
Either way, prayer helps the internal wind to die down—even if the external circumstances don’t change. I like the image of Jesus steering the rudder of my sailboat, keeping me on his course. But it’s up to me to invite him into my boat each day.
Let us pray: Lord, help me to pray and to trust in you.
