Throughout our history as Catholic missioners, Glenmary has employed Catholic lay ministers to serve side-by-side with Glenmary priests and brothers in Mission Land, USA. Glenmary is always looking to partner with lay ministers, both men and women, who have a heart to serve in Glenmary mission counties in Appalachia and the South.
Lay Evangelizers serve in Glenmary missions and focus specifically on evangelizing the unchurched, the unaffiliated, and non-Christians. They employ creative methods to reach people not currently part of any Christian community, to share the Gospel with them, and to invite them to consider joining the Catholic Church.
Lay Missionary Pastoral Ministers work in Glenmary mission counties by gathering, forming, and catechizing the Catholic members of the mission county they are serving. Working directly with the local Catholic community, Lay Missionary Pastoral Ministers work in collaboration with a Glenmary priest to ensure the Catholic faithful have access to the sacraments and to the Word of God. These lay ministers also conduct outreach in the county, engage in ecumenism, and evangelize the unchurched.
Lay Pastoral Associates serve in Glenmary parishes and typically hold a specific position, such as Youth Minister, Director of Religious Education, or Director of Hispanic Ministry. The local parish is the primary focus of Lay Pastoral Associates, but they also partner with the team of Glenmary missioners in the area to conduct outreach and engage in other ministries.
Regional Hispanic Missioner
Glenmary employs lay people to do regional Hispanic ministry, reaching out to Hispanics in various mission areas by providing parish missions, doing evangelization, conducting home visits, inviting inactive Catholics to greater participation in the local community, and more.
Director of Ecumenism
Glenmary’s Director of Ecumenism works towards establishing greater Christian unity by enhancing understanding, reducing alienation and fostering reconciliation between Catholics and other non-Catholic Christian denominations existing in Glenmary’s missions in the southeastern part of the United States. He emphasizes Evangelical, Pentecostal and Charismatic communities.
Director of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation
Glenmary’s Director of Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation is to be a catalyst, facilitator, and collaborator at many levels, with and between many groups both within and outside of the Glenmary Home Missioners, in order to bring about justice, peace and integrity of creation.
Glenmary Volunteer Program
Glenmary’s Volunteer Director coordinates Glenmary’s Volunteer Programs, particularly the ministry that takes place at the Glenmary Farm on Joppa Mountain in East Tennessee. That’s the site of Glenmary’s volunteer program, that hosts high school, college and adult groups for mission immersion experiences.
