From today’s Scripture: “There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for every thing under the heavens.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1

Every time that I read these verses from Ecclesiastes, I think of Pete Seeger’s classic folk song, “Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything is a Season)” which includes the fourteen contrasting but connected pairings. As we move along this journey, we have these different experiences in different seasons of our life. What are we experiencing today? What are we called to do in this season of life?

“A time to tear down, a time to build up” reminds me of the renovations that were done to the Promise of Hope transitional shelter. The first thing that we had to do was tear down the existing bathroom and other areas of the house and clean out all the junk. It was now time to build it back up, and the renovation and transformation of this house was amazing. Over the years, many people sought refuge and shelter at this place because it was a time to heal and be restored. It is amazing “the work which God has done.”

Let us pray: Lord, open our eyes to the different seasons and times of our lives. Let us tear down any walls that separate us from You or our brothers and sisters. Let us build bridges to keep us connected to and through Your love.
