From today’s Scripture: “Jesus departed to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God.” —Lk 6:12
I have lived the day as well as I was able. I now come to the moment when there is nothing more to see or hear, nothing more to say. I now long for silence, to travel within the deep places in contemplation, where I do not need words or images. This quiet place is difficult for most modern-day people.
As we grow away from the age of silence, we may need to ask ourselves if this “growing away from” is partially responsible for a loss of soul in today’s world. We are ever to be watchful so that the enemies of the soul will not find us careless and unaware.
So, I come to the presence of silence, to be sheltered under the shadow of God’s wings, although I am a loved sinner and I am always invited to enter. Then I shall stay; I shall stay longer to be renewed and cleansed in this place of silence where rest and awe become my prayer.
Let us pray: Lord, may our life be a prayer, and that prayer be our life.
