8th Monday in Ordinary Time

Winter OT Email Header 2024-3

From today’s Scripture: “Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, ‘You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.’”—Mk 10:21

It is not hard for me to relate to the man in today’s Gospel. Oftentimes I think I’m doing a good job at living a Christian life because I follow all the basic rules. I haven’t killed anyone; I go to Mass on Sundays. And while those things are all good, Jesus asks me to take it a step further. How can I empty myself—from attachment to material possessions, resentment, bitterness, and the like—to live a more fully Christian life?

Let us pray: Lord God, you remind me today that all things are possible for you. Show me one area of my life that needs to be emptied and fill it with your love.
