6th Monday in Ordinary Time

Winter OT Email Header 2024-3

From today’s Scripture: God then said: ‘What have you done? Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground!’”—Gn 4:10

These are the words that the Lord speaks to Cain after he killed his brother, Abel. The Lord looked with more favor on Abel’s sacrifice than that of Cain. Then Cain’s resentment for his brother led to jealousy.

Jealousy is an evil that may not make us kill another, but often causes us to kill another’s reputation by words. It can cause us to harbor hatred in our hearts that may cause us to wish harm on another. Why are we jealous? Many reasons: he/she makes more money, sings better, has more friends than I. The list can be long. The end result is a sad life for us. We have gifts that others do not have. Our jealousy keeps us from seeing our own worth and abilities.

Let us cast out the jealousies in our lives, and celebrate our giftedness!

Let us pray: Loving Lord, thank you for the gifts and blessings that you have given to me. Let me use them for your glory and honor.
