From today’s Scripture: “God sent his only-begotten Son into the world so that we might have life through him.”—1 Jn 4:9
“The name of God is Mercy,” Pope Francis has taught, in his 2016 book that goes by this title, taken from his conversations with a journalist about mercy. So is the Gospel that we hear today. Jesus looks on the crowds with pity and is moved to touch them by satisfying their hunger.
Brothers and sisters, Jesus stands at the ready with arms outstretched to each one of us, looking upon our brokenness, our hunger, and our fears and he says, give them something to eat, or rather, have them recline and I will feed them myself!
Let us pray: Today let me be open to discomfort at easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships. Clear away false truth so that I may see you alive, deep within my heart.
