From today’s Scripture: “…Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary. Of her was born Jesus who is called the Christ.”—Mt 1:16
Today’s Gospel is the genealogy of Jesus. Some of the names in Jesus’ family tree I recognize and others not as much. In listening to Jesus’ ancestry, we are reminded that Jesus, the son of God, became fully man. He was already God and would remain so but by becoming fully man, God was in the world with us.
This incarnation was only possible because of Mary’s “yes.” Let us take time to reflect again on Mary’s willingness to say yes, thus making her the mother of God and in her divine maternity, the mother of all of us. We honor Mary, as she is truly the bridge between humanity and divinity.
And at the same time, let us pray to recognize how God is also calling each one of us to welcome Jesus into our own life. Are we ready to respond as quickly as Mary? “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.”
Let us pray: Loving God, you came into this world to share your love with everyone. How are you calling me to respond to that love and share it with others as well?
