From today’s Scripture: “Where was John’s baptism from? Was it of heavenly or of human origin?”—Mt 21:25a
As a child I would sometimes ask my sister, “Who died and made you boss?” My childish question was not really to question her authority but rather was a response due to my lack of desire to listen to her orders.
In today’s Scripture, Jesus is asked by the chief priests, by what authority he is doing his ministry? Unlike my sister, he had earned authority through his teachings, healings, and forgiving sins. It was actually the chief priests acting childish in this situation and not wanting to recognize his authority and believe in his teachings.
As we prepare for Christmas, let us take a moment to seriously reflect, do we accept Jesus’ authority? What about God’s other messengers? What do we need to let go of in our life to hear Jesus’ teachings and let his message of love touch and transform our heart?
Let us pray: Jesus, I humbly ask forgiveness of the times I failed to listen and now turn to you with my whole heart.
