From today’s Scripture: “He said to them, ‘Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.’ At once they left their nets and followed him.”—Mt 4:19-20
In today’s gospel from Matthew, Jesus calls his first disciples. Among them are Andrew and his younger brother Peter. However, I always found it interesting that in John’s gospel, Andrew finds Jesus and goes to Peter and tells him to come to Jesus. To me this is a wonderful testament to not only Andrew’s faith but Peter’s. As someone who has three older brothers, I would never so readily accept something they told me. Seriously though, today’s gospel is a testament to the apostles’ faith. They dropped everything and followed where Jesus called them. Are we willing to drop something as simple as tickets to a game or concert to follow when Jesus calls us to Mass?
Let us pray: Jesus, help me prepare my heart to accept your call. Let me be willing to leave everything to answer your call.
