From today’s Scripture: “When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘…we have done what we were obliged to do.'”—Lk 17:10
It is easy for us to forget that our vocation, the source of our joy and fulfillment, is in doing God’s will, being servants like Jesus, who said. “I did not come to be served, but to serve.” I learned that truth from the Baltimore Catechism many decades ago, though I did not understand or appreciate it well then.
The culture tells me I should be self-directed, doing things my way. But, I know that Jesus, not the culture, is right on this one, too. So, I need to pay attention to Jesus, not the culture.
Let us pray: Jesus, you are a model of service for my life. What do you want me to do today?
