7th Saturday in Ordinary Time

Our Lady of the Fields-3 (1)

From today’s Scripture: “He put the fear of himself upon their hearts, and showed them his mighty works, That they might glory in the wonder of his deeds and praise his holy name.” —Sir 17:8-10

Mary’s goal is to always lead others closer to her son, Jesus Christ. So too does Our Lady of the Fields, as she works to sow the seed of Christ into many people’s hearts.

If Christ is the “seed or fruit” of salvation, Mary’s womb effectively becomes the soil bed of salvation. She is the fertile soil in which faith flourishes.

Through Mary’s womb, the salvation of the world was conceived; through her womb we get molded into the image of Christ. She turns our barren fields into rich and flourishing fields. The soil of Mary enriches Christian believers.

Let us pray: Our Lady of the Fields, inspire me to become a missioner in my home, work, and community so as to lead others closer to your son.

Today’s author is Glenmary Brother Thomas Nguyen, currently assigned in Martin County, North Carolina, for his mission immersion as a part of his advanced missionary formation.
