From today’s Scripture: “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain.”—1 Cor 15:17

It might seem obvious, but Christians believe that Jesus is God, a person in that mystery of the Holy Trinity, somehow part of one God, yet distinct as a person. Maybe not so obvious, on second thought. That’s a lot to wrap your head around—in fact God is too big to wrap your head around.

The best we can hope for is faith, that inner awareness that God is real, is present. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are there and working. God creates us, in the person of Jesus redeems us, in the person of the Holy Spirit somehow allows us to share in God’s spirit. If Jesus is not God, forget about it! Or as St. Paul tells us today, our faith is in vain if Christ is not alive, that is, resurrected after his death.

Let us pray: Loving God, today I pray for faith. Help me to believe in you, and in Jesus, your son. Like the father in Mark’s Gospel, I pray, “Lord, I believe! Help my unbelief!”
