Winter OT Email Header 2024-3

From today’s Scripture: Simon Peter said in reply, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’”—Mt 16:16

Today we celebrate the feast of the Chair of St. Peter the Apostle. Jesus called Peter to head his Church after the Ascension. In Matthew’s Gospel Jesus asks Peter, “Who do you say that I am?” Renewed with the Spirit, Peter proclaims that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. Jesus entrusts Peter with the keys to the Church. This is the same Peter that will deny Jesus. Yet Jesus sees the goodness in Peter. He knows that Peter is a man of faith, and that Peter will humbly lead the early Christian community.

Peter was a fisherman. He knew hard work. He left all behind to follow the Lord. Jesus did not look for the wealthy or people of great influence to be his followers. He looked to people who are seekers of the Lord. We may ask each day, Who is Jesus for us? This question and answer will help keep us focused.

Let us pray: Loving Jesus, your spirit guided Peter to proclaim you as Lord and Savior. I pray that I can have the same faith as Peter. I pray that I can proclaim you and live for you, my Lord and Savior. You have the words of everlasting life.
