Daily Reflection

4th Thursday of Easter

Actions speak louder…

From today’s Scripture: “When Jesus had washed the disciples’ feet, he said to them: ‘Amen, amen, I say to you, no slave is greater than his master, no messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you understand this, blessed are you if you do it.’”Jn 13:16-17.

Today’s Gospel is the perfect example of the saying, “Practice what you preach.”How often do we see politicians, businesspeople, and religious leaders fall short of the ideals they promote? In today’s Gospel we see Jesus stressing that he expects action not just words. He gets down to wash the apostle’s feet to remind them that they are here to serve not be served.

What better way is there to be the messenger of Jesus than to be a servant to others? We need to go beyond understanding Jesus’ words to implementing them.

Let us pray: Lord, help me to live your words, not just hear them.
