3rd Wednesday in Ordinary Time

Winter OT Email Header 2024-3

From today’s Scripture: “But those sown on rich soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.”Mk 4:20

I have a basil plant that, by some miracle, I have kept alive for the past three years. There are seasons, especially in the wintertime, that I think it has died and will no longer flower. But it surprises me, and new leaves emerge! It must have deeper roots than I can see.

How do we become that rich soil with deep roots that bears fruit as described in today’s Gospel? It takes time and consistency. I keep watering my basil plant through its abundance and frailty, so when the winter comes, it continues to flower. In a similar way, we must feed ourselves consistently with prayer and the Eucharist to grow deep roots in Christ.

Let us pray: Thank you, Lord, for sowing your word in me. Lead me patiently as I grow in your word and love.
