From today’s Scripture: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”—Jn 6:51
The Easter season is often the time for the celebration of First Communion. Most of us have pictures and other items that remind us of our own First Communion day. I have my mother’s prayer book and a framed picture of Mary and Jesus that she received for her First Communion day. I have wonderful memories of my own day and many memories of celebrations in the missions.
How often have you reflected on the bread of life as a promise of eternal life? Do we remember, think of, Jesus coming to live in us and prepare us for eternal life? Have we grown into an adult appreciation of the bread of life?
Let us pray: Jesus, thank you for the bread of life. Guide me toward an appreciation of your promise of eternal life. My Lord and my God! My Jesus, mercy!
