From today’s Scripture: “Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will save it.”—Lk 17:33
Some Pharisees asked Jesus when the Kingdom of God was coming, just as today some Christians are quite concerned about when the Second Coming of Christ will happen. They seem to feel that if they know when it is about to happen, they can protect themselves and will be better off.
But, Jesus tells us it does not matter when he comes, but that it does matter what we are focused on when he comes. He said that before the devastating flood announced by Noah and before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah people were focused on worldly concerns, “what they were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, and building,” they were worried about worldly cares when they should have been focused on what God wanted them to do.
Let us pray: Father, you know that I am often concerned about my own issues. Today, let me focus on what you have in mind for me, and care about this day.
