From today’s Scripture: “What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it.”—Lk 15:4
I don’t know about you, but I sometimes struggle with the idea that I matter to the almighty God. I picture myself as this tiny, insignificant person in comparison to God’s huge presence, looking down at me amongst all the other people currently living on Earth. Does my individual situation matter? And God says yes.
Even if I was lost, God would search for me rather than remain content with the large number who were safe and accounted for. And the search would not last for a finite amount of time—say, we search for three days and then all hope is lost, searching is no longer a good use of resources. No, God continues searching for that one soul until He finds it. There is no time limit, there are no conditions. God always searches and hopes that we will be found or return home. Because that one soul is unique and unrepeatable. Each soul, each person matters, and is worth searching and fighting for.
Let us pray: Lord, help me to believe that you will always search for me when I am lost. Give me the courage to turn back to you when I have gone astray on my journey of faith.
