30th Tuesday in Ordinary Time

Ordinary Time_Summer-3

From today’s Scripture: “[The Kingdom of God] is like a mustard seed.”—Lk 13:19

I really don’t like watching network news. Part of my struggle is that, after watching, I feel so overwhelmed. With so much pain and suffering in the world, I feel paralyzed in my ability to respond.

But Jesus gives us a helpful way forward. It is not that he does not want us to be aware of the suffering throughout the world. It is just that it seems he invites us to live Christianity locally. He wants us to plant small mustard seeds around us and, through his grace, these bring the kingdom to the world.

I can help a family member who is hurting. I can say hi to my neighbor and ask how they are doing. I can volunteer at the local food shelf. I can give back to my local parish.

I can plant small mustard seeds around me that will grow into the fullness of the Kingdom of God throughout the world.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, help me to live your love today. Help me to plant seeds in my backyard so that your kingdom can grow throughout the world.
