From today’s Scripture: “But the tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed, ‘O God, be merciful to me a sinner.’”—Lk 18:13
The Pharisee spoke of how well he did things; the tax collector only asked for mercy. I ask myself: how do I approach God? Sometimes I justify myself, other times I acknowledge my fragility. Today Jesus reminds me that true prayer is born from a simple heart that knows it is in need.
Let us pray: O God, be merciful to me, a sinner.
