29th Wednesday in Ordinary Time

OT Summer Email Header 2025-3

From today’s Scripture: “Our help is in the name of the Lord.”—Ps 124:8

The Lord’s name is powerful. Saints have taught us that, if we find ourselves facing temptation, we should simply utter “Jesus.”

Exorcists have used the name of Jesus in the face of demonic possession.

When I have ministered to inmates in prison, and they feel pulled to their former ways, I have advised them: speak the name of Jesus.

So often, they come back to me and tell me it works. There is power in his name.

I have found this for myself, too, in my own spiritual journey.

The Psalmist from today is handing us a tool to overcome temptation: “Our help is in the name of the Lord.” Speak his name, and he will come to our aid.

Let us pray: Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!
