From today’s Scripture: “Sir, leave it for this year also, and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it; it may bear fruit in the future. If not you can cut it down.”—Lk 13:8-9
Today we hear another parable, this time about a fig tree. If that fig tree represents my faith, what do I need to do so that I may bear fruit? I think it will require that: I roll up my shirt sleeves, cultivate the ground around it, add some fertilizer, and probably get my hands a little dirty.
I can read a little more Scripture, fast from TV and the negative influences on social media. I can participate in a group in my parish, reach out to my neighbors, or volunteer at a food bank or soup kitchen. Undertake something new that will give me and those I come in contact with life and bear fruit for others.
Let us pray: God the vine grower, I turn to you and offer up my time and talents so that I may grow closer to you and bear good fruit to share with those around me.
