28th Tuesday in Ordinary Time

OT Summer Email Header 2025-3

From today’s Scripture: “After he had spoken, a Pharisee invited him to dine at his home. He entered and reclined at table to eat.”—Lk 11:37

The first time I read this Gospel, I skipped over this verse. The Pharisee invited Jesus to dine with him. He realized, even in his brokenness, that Jesus was someone he needed to invite into his life.

But then, instead of being open and recognizing that Jesus himself is in his midst, the Pharisee worries about the wrong things. How often does that happen in our prayer? Before Jesus even gets a chance to speak, here I come complaining about this or that. This Gospel is a reminder that sometimes the biggest obstacle to seeing and hearing Jesus is myself.

Let us pray: Jesus, I welcome you into my life today. Give me the openness to recognize you, to hear you, and to listen to you.
