Daily Reflection

26th Monday in Ordinary Time

Blessed be God.

From today’s Scripture: “Naked I came forth from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I go back again. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD!’”—Jb 1:21

What happens when we lose something important to us? More deeply, what happens when we lose someone whom we love, to sickness and death? It is very, very hard to accept things that we think of as bad. We deny that it is happening, we are angry about it, we try to fill holes that never can be filled… And finally, if we are open to grace, we learn to accept.

We fool ourselves every day thinking we are running our lives. We are challenged to learn, like Job, that God is the master of everything that happens. God gives, and God takes away. Blessed be God!

Let us pray: Lord, today, give me an ounce more of wisdom. Help me to see things through your eyes, to surrender my illusion of control to the truth of your will. Help me to welcome your presence in my life.
