25th Wednesday in Ordinary Time

OT Summer Email Header 2025-3

From today’s Scripture: “Jesus summoned the Twelve and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.” —Lk 9:1-2

Jesus sends his disciples on a mission. They become apostles. A literal translation of this word means those sent on a mission. The mission is to exorcise demons, heal, and proclaim the Kingdom of God. This is Jesus’ own mission, and he confers on his apostles his power and authority.

There is only one ministry in the Church, and that is the ministry of Jesus, who is Prophet, Priest, and King. This has different ramifications in terms of state in life, but all share in this ministry by virtue of Baptism. This the Church calls the priesthood of the baptized.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, assist me with your power that I may live with the dignity of one who is baptized and serve you wholeheartedly within my state in life. Amen.
