From today’s Scripture: “The scribes and the Pharisees watched him closely to see if he would cure on the sabbath so that they might discover a reason to accuse him.” — Lk 6:6-7

Doing good work has never been a shame and will never be a shame. Just like making a sign of the cross in a crowded restaurant before one eats is not a shame. “A good deed must be done well and without making noise,” says St. Joseph Allamano. Jesus healing on a sabbath is seen by the Pharisees as a scandal. When did promoting human dignity become a sin! Why should we give in to human respect when it comes to doing good and avoiding evil? Does jealousy get in our way when other people do good things?

Let us pray: Lord, you created us and gave us the responsibility to take care of your creation. Send us the spirit of courage not only to protect your creation but also to promote human dignity. Amen.
