From today’s Scripture: “When they brought their boats to the shore, they left everything and followed him.”—Lk 5:11
Jesus was teaching a very large crowd along the shore of the Sea of Galilee. The crowd kept growing and Jesus was not able to be heard by all. So, he got into Peter’s boat and asked him if he would take him a short distance off shore so his voice would reach all the people. When Jesus finished teaching the crowd, he told Peter to go out further and let down the nets to fish. Peter was reluctant to start back fishing because he and his crew had fished all night and caught nothing. Likewise his companion crew of James and John had caught nothing. But Peter followed Jesus’ command and caught enough fish to fill both boats. Peter, James, and John were so moved they stopped fishing, left their boats and their jobs, and followed Jesus.
Was there ever a time when you connected with Jesus so strongly that you left your current life and followed Jesus? Was it the right choice? Would you do it again? Why?
Let us pray: Jesus, I want to follow you the way Peter, James, and John did. I know that when I do it wholeheartedly, my life is full and meaningful. And, when I did it reluctantly, my life was a mess. Thank you for getting me back on track; keep me on track; and keep all your millions of followers focused on following you to life unending.
