22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

OT Summer Email Header 2025-3

From today’s Scripture: “He told a parable to those who had been invited, noticing how they were choosing the places of honor at the table. ‘When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not recline at table in the place of honor.’”—Lk 14:7-8

We seem to be aware of our social standing most of the time along with our desire to look better by raising it. We are not so aware of the social standing of those around us and don’t care much either. The guests in the parable showed their desire for higher social standing by seating themselves in places of honor. I think we show our desire to look better by controlling the conversation.

One way we can overcome our pride is by choosing to be a servant to the rest of the people and listen more than we speak. It is also a beautiful way to love them.

Let us pray: Jesus, you taught your disciples and the crowds the necessity of learning to be humble and putting aside our pride. I beg you to teach me, too, to be your servant and a servant to all my sisters and brothers I meet today.
