From today’s Scripture: “Behold, God is my helper; the Lord sustains my life. Freely will I offer you sacrifice; I will praise your name, O LORD, for its goodness.”—Ps 54:6, 8
Since I say I am offering God generous sacrifice, what do I use as a standard of generosity? How generous has he been to me?
God gave me, through my parents and the doctor and nurse who came to their house the evening I was born, the gift of independent life. Then, through the love and care they gave me many times a day as they fed me, washed and cleaned and dressed me, and gently held me, and even worried about me sometimes when I cried, God sustained my life. Then, when I went to school, God gave me teachers and fellow students who loved me and gave me wonderful knowledge.
More directly, God gives me oxygen which I breathe 12-15 times a minute, without which I would not live. God also gave me the ability to see and hear and feel and think and decide and love, without which my life would have no meaning. What a standard of generosity!
Let us pray: God, I cannot match your standard of generous loving. Let me show how much I do love you by humbly accepting your constant love.
