From today’s Scripture: “We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love and endurance in hope…”—1 Thes 1:2-3
Prayer and especially prayer of thanksgiving is a valuable means of the power of the Spirit. St. Therese of Lisieux is patron of the missions because of her strong life of prayer for missionaries. We are all called to this prayer for the mission of the church. Setting aside time and quiet contemplation enables us and those in active mission to give witness for the gospel and Jesus to the world.
Why not try today and every day to set aside time to give thanks for those who carry on the mission of Jesus in today’s world? Unceasing prayer, even the shortest, is powerful. A psalm verse or a slow Our Father can change the world.
Let us pray: Thank you Lord for all those you have called to be your missionaries. Bless them with your power and strength. Send your Spirit to guide them. With a grateful heart, let me too share in giving witness to you.
