From today’s Scripture: “For the sake of the joy that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God.”—Heb 12:2
Oftentimes in our lives we have crosses or fears that we are afraid to confront and carry. Let’s face it, most of us don’t like to suffer; it’s no fun at all.
Today, St. Paul reminds us that Christ endured the cross for our sake. Through him the shame of punishment and suffering became a place of refuge and redemption. This does not mean that our crosses will be easy to bear, but that we are not alone and that by embracing our crosses the suffering we face can be redemptive.
Let us pray: Lord, may I find peace and strength in your crucifix. May I not look at you in fear but in loving embrace.
