From today’s Scripture: “Why do you ask me about the good? There is only One who is good.”—Mt 19:17
This Gospel verse is perhaps something we all should ask ourselves: do we recognize that only God is good? How many times do you and I get caught up in worldly concerns and forget this important reality? Sometimes we get caught up by idols like the Jews in the first reading. Not that we get caught up by actual false gods, but we make “false gods” out of created things that offer short lived goods but cannot satisfy our hearts.
Jesus reminds us that only God is the source of goodness, and only he can fully satisfy us. Like St. Augustine says, let us be reminded that only God can satisfy our restless hearts. Let us seek God in everything that we do.
Let us pray: Lord, remind us that only you can satisfy our innermost needs. May we always desire you in everything.
