From today’s Scripture: “I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times. ” — Mt 18:22
Soccer’s World Cup competition was filled with excitement, and a certain beauty in seeing people of the world come together. One of many unforgettable moments was Argentinian player Lionel Messi’s tying last-minute goal against Egypt in the 83rd minute of a 90-minute match. Argentina went on to win with another goal soon after.
When do we give up on mercy? Jesus says, Don’t give up! Do we forgive seven times? No, 70! Jesus says 70, symbolizing an infinite number. God never gives up on us; we always change, hopefully sooner, but even at the end of our lives. So, too, must we extend mercy to others, time and again. It’s never too late.
Let us pray: Dear Lord, today give me the courage to be merciful to others as you are to me, again and again.
