From today’s Scripture: “God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.”—Alleluia verse

God acted through his son to reconcile the world to himself. His reconciliation was restoring what the sin of Adam and Eve blinded us to. We are made in God’s divine image. We all possess divine dignity. Reconciliation is God restoring us to that divine image. “The Word (Christ Jesus) became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (Jn 1:14).

As Christ reconciled us through his divine presence among us, he in turn gave us the message of reconciliation that we be reconciled with one another. Think about the sin of Adam and Eve. It was not just a break in relationship with God, but a break in relationship within humankind. Adam and Eve needed reconciliation between themselves. We need to be reconciled with each other. Until we live that message of reconciliation, there will continue to be jealousy, belittlement of others, bitterness towards others, as well as war and hatred.

Let us pray: O God, through your son we have been reconciled to you. May we take the message of reconciliation that your son shared with us and seek reconciliation with all others.
