From today’s Scripture: “Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by waves; but [Jesus] was asleep.”—Mt 8:24
Gustavo Gutierrez, a Peruvian theologian, taught in his book On Job that hope is a faith in God despite the suffering, especially the suffering of the innocent. The disciples in the boat should have known that in the midst of the storm, the God of their faith was there. Hope must come and stay especially when the storms hit us hard, for we know that God is present in the storms as he is in the tranquility of life. And there in the storms we must find him, maybe sleeping, but present and in charge!
Let us pray: Dear Lord, grant that I may not so much seek to avoid the storms but embrace them with you.
