From today’s Scripture: “You are the salt of the earth.”—Mt 5:13
I am totally weak when it comes to salt. I love it! Most nights, before my walking rosary, I enjoy a little popcorn, covered in a little olive oil, and sprinkled with…a lot…of salt. (Hopefully, my doctor isn’t reading this.) But I love salt. I fear getting lab work done for what my sodium levels might read.
But, at least spiritually speaking, we should all love salt… or at least being salty. Jesus wants us as his followers to bring flavor to this world so that the world will be salty. We want the world’s lab work to come back and read: High Sodium!
But we cannot do this without cultivating our own relationship with Jesus, by going to church, regularly receiving the Sacraments, spending time in his Word, and serving those we encounter. This is how we stay spiritually salty and bring that salt to the world.
Let us pray: Lord, help us to be salty.
