From today’s Scripture: “But I say to you that if you are angry with a brother or sister, you will be liable to judgment…” —Mt 5: 22
As one of my sisters was driving through Atlanta, she became very annoyed with the slow traffic. She looked at me and said, “It would be nice if cars were equipped with heat-seeking missiles. Then I could clear a path through this traffic.” There came a small voice from the back seat, my 5-year-old nephew. “Mommy, heat-seeking missiles go for the hottest source and that would be you.” A little one taught a truth about anger.
Jesus tells us to seek reconciliation to root out anger. If left unresolved, anger can take root in our hearts. As it grows it destroys the good in us, our relationship with family and friends, and our relationship with Christ. If unchecked, it can lead to violence. Anger should never control us.
Let us pray: Jesus, grant me the grace to always respond in love and not anger.
