In Hispanic culture there is a long tradition of celebrating Holy Week, Semana Santa,that involves celebrations, Masses, and processions. Latino communities in Glenmary mission areas, like every culture on the move, have brought with them faith-enriching traditions that benefit everyone. One of the treasured practices is a reenactment of the Passion and Crucifixion on Good Friday.

In Maynardville, Tenn., in the heart of Appalachia, the people of Central Point mobile home community host a Good Friday Via Crucis procession each year.

“I’ve been to outdoors Good Friday processions in Washington, D.C., and in Cincinnati, Ohio, and I must say, this is a more moving experience,” says Glenmary Brother Joe Steen.
